Proxies offer a wide range of benefits to networks including increased security and bandwidth savings. You can set them up at your residence if you’re experiencing a slow internet connection. It is possible to configure proxy settings in Windows 10 through the Settings app or Control Panel. If you are using a proxy for school or work, be sure the Use automatic detection of settings is turned on and the Use setup script feature is on in the Automatic Proxy Setup section.
Open the Internet Options window by clicking on the Control Panel icon or by typing “Internet options” into the Search bar. Click the Advanced tab and then open the LAN settings in it. In the Address and Port fields, type in the information of your proxy provider. Then, tick the box that says Use the proxy server to connect to your LAN. Close the Internet Options window.
Sometimes, malware can interfere with your settings for a proxy server to block you from connecting online. If the error message “Windows could not detect this network’s proxy settings” persists you should run a scan using an anti-malware program and try to determine if that helps.
If the error persists, you can try resetting proxy settings via the Registry. Be cautious, as altering the Registry could cause irreversible system damage. We recommend creating backups prior to proceeding with this method. To do this, press the Win + R keys at the same time. Enter cmd and hit Enter. This will open the classic Command Prompt.
